Laptop Power Sockets
If your laptop has a broken power socket, in most cases it can still be repaired. If it works when you hold the plug in just the right position, that normally means the socket has a cracked joint or the barb is cracked in half. Be careful though, you know what they say, a stitch in time saves nine.. In other words, the longer you leave it, the harder it is going to be for us to fix it.
When it comes to power sockets, if you bring it to us while it’s still a simple job to repair, it will probably cost less to fix.
Shown here is a “before and after” shot of a job presented to us that was fairly badly broken. In the end it was fixable but it did take some creative work on our part. The picture shows a power socket sitting in fresh air with wires attached to it. It wasn’t meant to be like that. That socket was meant to be attached to the motherboard. The customer had dropped the laptop with the power lead still plugged in to it and it fell on the power plug, Breaking the socket off the motherboard in the process. The socket was soldered back in place and reinforced with wires and silicon.
The moral of the story is to remember to unplug your power cord before you try to get up and walk around with your laptop.
It all worked out in the end though as it usually does.
